MADE TO ORDER - Black Lichen Vessel

Porcelain, stain, high temperature wire, clear glaze

Inspired by the microscopic photographs I took of Golden Eye lichens at the University of Manitoba’s Herbarium in 2023, I have continued my exploration of movement and growth in this sculptural series. Each lichen is individually sculpted and attached to the vase one at a time, often layered on top of each other. For added depth some have been attached with high temperature wire, and a few have been glazed with a clear glaze. This variation catches the eye and adds an element of interest, engaging the viewer to linger and look closer.
