Beginner friendly. Some working knowledge of clay recommend but not necessary.

In this one day intensive workshop Rachael Kroeker will go over the basics of slip casting, how to add stains into casting clay, layered surface designs specific to casting and all the tips and tricks she has learned in the 15 + years she has been creating.

Option to bring your own plaster molds, or use some of the provided molds (small bowls and tumblers).

This workshop will cover:

  • How to mix up casting slip from dry materials and how to reclaim

  • Troubleshooting, correcting over/under deflocculated slip and how to make adjustments

  • Colouring casting slips - how to test colourants and adding stain to small batches

  • Layering, slip trailing, casting in lay, marbling and other decorative techniques unique to casting

  • General how-to of casting and cleaning up pieces

Students will have the opportunity to test out many decorative techniques throughout the day and will finish multiple pieces. Option to take home unfired casts, pick up bisque fired items at a later date, or pieces can be glaze fired with a clear glaze. (Glazing done by Rachael).

Please bring an apron and/or clothes you can get clay on, along with a water bottle and lunch.

My studio space is small, so I have capped this workshop at 7 people. This smaller group will give you ample time to ask questions and receive guidance.

If the class does not reach the minimum number of participants (4 people) a full refund will be given. If you need to cancel, a full refund - 5% process fees will be given until Feb 21st.
